2015 CFDA Fashion Awards

Last night was the star studded 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards. I like to think of it as "Fashion Prom"-with the most fashionably and publicly renowned stars show out and show up on the red carpet.

The annual event recognizes the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts, with awards being given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as extraordinary accomplishments in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.

Nominations for each award category are submitted by The CFDA Fashion Awards Guild, an invitation only network comprised of top fashion retailers, journalists, stylists, influencers and the 450+ member designers of the CFDA.  The nominees, as well as recipients of the honorary awards are ratified by the CFDA Board of Directors. Meet Skylar Diggins

Name: Skylar Diggins 
Occupation: Professional Basketball Player
Years in the Industry:  3 years in the WNBA

Q: Tell us a bit about your childhood. Where did you grow up?  I grew up in South Bend, IN .. I have always been very family and community oriented.  I was always active.. Playing some kind of sport.

Q: When did you first know that you wanted to have a career in basketball?  I realized that I loved basketball when I was in grammar school.  I tried every sport.. And basketball really became a passion.  I realized that I could have a career when they formed the WNBA.  It was groundbreaking. 

Q: What has been the most exciting moment in your career so far?  I can never name one moment when there have been so many distinct moments.  Moments can be exciting and teachable experiences.. I was excited when I first walked on the court as a WNBA player, starting in the 2014 WNBA All-Star game, participating in two NBA All-Star Weekends, improving my second season and being names Most Improved Player, being named to the First Team…. So many moments in a relatively short amount of time.  

Q: Who inspires you as an athlete and as a businesswoman?  The fans and my family.. No one could ask for a more supportive and loving family.. And the fans..  I want to be my best self – I’m hoping in staying positive, pushing myself to grow – others take inspiration from my focus.  

Q: What advice do you have for aspiring female athletes?  DO NOT BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY SAY, “NO, YOU CAN’T DO THAT.”  Don’t ever let anyone limit your dreams.

Q: Can you describe how you were able to juggle academics & basketball while you were in college?  It wasn’t fun, the workload was the opposite of fun.. TONS of work but you manage to learn balance in your life.  I made sure I set my priorities and stayed the course to achieve my goals.

Q: You stopped the world when you were announced as apart of ROCNATION. Can you share your experiences being apart of a huge dynasty?  It’s been a great experience.  If I have a dream, idea – they find a way to help bring that vision to life… I’m not a client, I don’t work for them, they don’t work for me.. We’re in this together. 

Q: Last question, what is your go to song in the locker room?  I can’t name one .. But some go to artists .. Wayne, J. Cole, JAY Z, Kanye, Ross, Big Sean … 

Don’t Waste Your Pretty

Bravo Reality Star, Blogger, and Life Coach, Demetria Lucas- D’Oyley sat down with Fluff Miami’s contributor during an appearance at the Rosa Regale ”Scandalicious” Watch Party. The visit to Miami was a pit stop on her tour for her new book “Don’t Waste Your Pretty: The Go-To-Guide for Making Smarter Decisions in Life & Love”. The proclaimed “Black Carrie Bradshaw” gave sound advice to all Women and men who are looking for love, and passed on some insight into what inspired her to write another book on relationships and life.

Having more than a decade of experience and research in the relationship realm, Lucas- D’Oyley is a former relationship editor of Essence Magazine, and has interviewed thousands of Men and Women on relationships in the past four years.  This practice serves with being able to offer a plethora of perceptive advice for anyone out there in the dating arena. After receiving over 40,000 online questions about relationships, Demetria decided to take the top 250 reoccurring questions from her blog “A Belle in Brooklyn “ and concentrate on meeting the needs of her readers and their commonalities.  She outlined the book from start to finish, covering an array of topics ranging from “How Do I Meet People”, “How to Form a Relationship”, “How to Ask for What I want” and “Red Flags”, to name few. She credits a lot of her success as a Life Coach and Author to just getting out there and talking to people. She speaks with experts and elders a like, who have the knowledge and life experience to assist in areas that she may not necessarily have the answers to in  both her professional and personal life. With her vast experience with speaking with Men over the years, Demetria has a respectable understanding of how they think, and has a good command on the sometimes contrasting views of both Men and Women.

This “Brooklyn Belle” offers up her extraordinary gift of being able to relate and identify the struggles and issues that both Men and Women face in the Dating World and in Life. Without even breaking a sweat she extends a much needed hand to those out there in the field, working to find love and companionship, while dealing with the dilemmas and heartbreak that come with trying to attain and build a healthy relationship.

Lisa Nicole-Cloud talks “Married to Medicine”

The upcoming season premiere of the hit Bravo show “Married to Medicine” is set to air on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 9:00 PM, and there seems to be no shortage of drama this season from these Atlanta women. Fluff got a chance to get a one on one interview with one of the stars of this Hit show, Lisa Nicole-Cloud, who is the wife of emergency physician Dr. Darren Naugles and a powerhouse in her own right. Lisa Nicole is a renowned Author, Direct Sales Trainer, Business-Success Coach, Speaker, Philanthropist and Clothing Designer, Oh and did I mention a mother of two beautiful children. With an ample amount of things on this Atl Divas plate, she also finds the time to spearhead the 5th Annual Conference for the “Women’s Empowerment Network” , which she founded as an outlet in support of and for women who are looking to grow personally, professionally, financially and spiritually. WEN has begun intensifying its reach by branching out into a 6 city tour, which is set to hit New York, New Orleans, Miami, Raleigh, Boston and California this summer.

Lisa Nicole often prides herself of promoting positivity and supporting “Girl Power” but this season of “Married to Medicine” test her will for being an advocate for Women’s empowerment and amicable alliances. During our interview she touched on some of the conflict that ensues between herself and one of her notoriously confrontational cast-mates, Quad Webb-Lunceford.

“The one cast member that builds her storyline around controversy, she came for me”. When Lisa Nicole was asked if she thinks that she was specifically targeted by Quad this season, her response was, “Every season she always has some kind of conflict with someone that keeps her relevant in her mind, and so usually her conflict is with a person that you would least expect her to be in conflict with, so this season it was me. There are certain things that you just don’t do, you don’t mess with someone’s family, you don’t mess with their children, you don’t mess with their spouse and when I say mess with them, I mean if you go after them and attack them and things that you say on camera. It’s kind of like an unspoken rule, we don’t do that because those individuals have nothing to do with our contract. So she went for my family and that’s a “No fly zone” for me, if you mess with my family, you are going to get a reaction”. What that reaction was is something that we’ll have to wait to see once the season airs.

When asked if there was any lesson learned through her conflict with Quadd, she resonded “Hurt People, Hurt People”. Lisa Nicole is an optimistic who says that “To stay and dwell in a negative situation is not healthy or good, and you know when thing come to a head, you have to figure out the lesson you are supposed to learn in the situation and move on in a positive and productive way, and that’s what I did this season”. Despite the drama with herself and Quadd, Lisa Nicole makes it clear that this Season of “Married to Medicine” is REAL and there are a lot of personal and authentic situations that each cast member will reveal about their lives and daily struggles.

Over the Memorial Day Weekend, Lance Gross married his gorgeous fiancé Rebecca Jefferson in Beverly Hills.  Lance popped the question to his longtime girlfriend last year.  They are the proud parents of their beautiful 6-month-old daughter, Berkeley Brynn Gross.  Their wedding was elegant, but most importantly, filled with love.  From the images posted on their social media accounts we can see that these two are #inlove.  We wish them a long, healthy, and prosperous marriage.

“I like my money right where I can see it . . . hanging in my closet,” said Carrie Bradshaw in the hit series turned movie Sex in the City. But these days’ women are putting less effort in the shopping malls and spending more money in home décor! Back in the 50s & 60s women were most seen in their kitchens and took pride in the room that was designed for them. Now, times have changed and bathrooms are the new hot room in the home.

Surprisingly, bathrooms are adding much more value to homes and its resale value. These rooms can be designed uniquely with a stylish Mediterranean feel or even a warm natural look, either way here are some of the hottest bathroom trends and designs of 2015.

1.      Mediterranean-style. Geometrical shapes in an open space.

2.       Smart Water.  We all have seen the trends from basic shower heads to basin faucets and even the most popular, rain shower heads. But can you believe that the rain shower heads are done, people are now investing in soaking tubs.  They are said, “the deeper the better”. Not only the deeper but the bigger and it must be a free standing tub. The tub is used as the center piece to the rest of your bathroom and helps with a little R&R.

3.       Entertainment. Add a simple plasma T.V above your new freestanding tub to assist in your downtime.

4.      Natural Elements. Natural beauty of the bathroom should not reflect the normal modern look but instead, add more wooden shades and natural tones to create a warm environment. Create your luxury, now spa room, using onyx counter tops or even try using the walnut-plank as an accent wall. Anything to help draw more natural light in will help give you that calming nature vibe.

5.      Color and accent walls. White is a common color in the bathroom, so instead attempt to do delicate greys. 

6.      Light it up. Yes, a simple chandelier will give any room that palace feeling but out with the old and in with the new. When remodeling you have to remember that bathrooms are fixed and once you design something into the wall or in the floor they will be there for a long time, so remember to choose something general yet stylish that will never go out of date. In 2015, you will see a lot of different lighting sources for a variety of mood-settings. LED lighting has been popular but to play safe use lighting that can be set to high, low, or in between.

7.      Heat Options. Instead of the norm, people are installing heated floors, towel racks, as well as fire features in their master bathrooms.

The Bad Gal of Dior

Dior officially has a new leading lady.  Grammy Award winning singer, and fashion enthusiast, Rihanna, is staring in Dior’s fourth “Secret Garden” campaign.  Everything about this campaign is simply perfection.  The campaign is set to debut later this spring with all images and video shot by Steven Klein.  While we all know Rihanna is a musical genius and fashion icon, what you might not know is she’s also making history.  By staring in this campaign she becomes the first black woman to front for the Dior brand.  You go gal!  Here are a few images from the campaign.
