Hair Trends: The Best of 2011
This year was filled with great hair inspirations from sloppy buns to gigantic afros. Rihanna started the year off loudly with flaming red hair and Cassie did the side cut that had celebrities like Willow Smith, Laurieann Gibson and La La putting clippers to their edges. The Fishtail braid was so fun and flirty and almost anyone could pull it off. And how could I forget about the lovely Ombre that added the perfect amount of color to dark tresses. This year was full of so much variety that I am really looking forward to see what is to come in 2012. Bring on some more GOOD hairstyles!

Born to Dance Style Tip: Episode 8
Laurieann Gibson’s hair on Born to Dance is as important as the choreography! Celebrity stylist Karim Odoms will be sharing his style tips on how to create beautiful, flowing hair every week.
We are going out with a bang! We decided to add more length to Laurieann’s luscious locks! We added Indique’s 30” inch PURE Wavy extensions at the bottom of the hair.
For “The Monsters Ball” we went for a wild rock and roll look using almost every iron in my kit from curling iron , flat iron , to crimping iron just for a messy, “piece-y” look .
For the finale elimination, we used a large 2” iron sectioning off hair down the middle . Starting from bottom to top wrap the hair around the iron away from the face leaving out the ends of hair to create a bigger, bouncier waves. Complete other section again wrapping hair around iron away from the face. Fluff those bangs, smoothing into wave pattern. Lay those edges with a control paste and always smooth fly seats around the part so that Indique looks as if its growing out of your scalp!

It’s a Boomkack 2 for 1 Special!
Ladies for the classic yet modern Farrah Fawcett first blow dry hair using a paddle brush to smooth and straighten the hair. Section hair down the middle of head pulling hair around both sides of your shoulder, then after clipping away one section start from the bottom working your way up to the top . Curl hair flipped away from the face completing both sides comb out framing the face and shake it out!
Then to transition into your Irene Kara circa Sparkle inspired hair, brush and smooth hair starting from your edges pulling over to your side of choice . Using 4-6 bobby pins, pin hair at the bottom of the neck to secure hair in place . Bangs should be fluffed for a sexy side swept look . Using a light hairspray, spray and go!

For Laurieann’s retro glam hair, use a 1-inch barrell curling iron wrap hair around the iron twisting in alternating directions. When done, pin curl hair leaving out the ends of curl. When hair is completely pin curled allow hair to set for 15 mins. Remove pins and using a bristle brush, brush entire head out into a wave pattern. You can also use your fingers to create two big finger waves in front using hair spray for hold, body and bounce.

Ladies, shame the fool that says that your lovely Indique tresses don’t look like it’s growing from your scalp!
Maintenance is essential! Shampoo & deep condition your hair every 2-3 weeks. Ms. BoomKack deep conditions with an intensive conditioning treatment for 20 minutes with a plastic cap, followed by rinse and paddle brush dry. Take sections of dry hair and flatiron using a comb placed in front of the flatiron plates for a smooth and sleek look.

Before curling and in between BoomKack styles, I always blow dry the hair with a paddle brush for beautiful bouncy hair with lots of movement.
For tonight’s look using a 1 1/2 curling iron, starting from the bottom working my way up to the top. Curl the hair away from the face and pin each curl to set. Once entire hair is curled, pinned and complete remove pins and finger comb hair upside down flip over lightly mist hair with holding spray and go!

Born to Dance Style Tip #2
Laurieann Gibson’s hair on Born to Dance is as important as the choreography! Celebrity stylist Karim Odoms will be sharing his style tips on how to create beautiful, flowing hair every week.
Style Tip #2
For the BoomKack braid apply styling cream throughout the hair and using a paddle brush gather all the hair to one side. Starting at the base of the neck begin braiding loosely with the braid of your choice, either the fishtail, standard braid or a twist. Braid all the way down leaving out the ends, secure with an elastic band. Now once you’re done, you can loosen sections of the braid to provide texture and create a messy look. Take a few sections of hair around the face and wrap the hair around a barrel curling iron. Smooth curled hair into braid for the finished look!

To achieve Laurieann’s beautiful soft and bouncy waves, work with your hair texture adding a dime size amount of styling cream and lightly but politely spray throughout entire head. Starting from the bottom, work your way up to the top, take sections using a 1” curling iron alternating directions for a more tousled look. Once you complete throw hair down shake and dance it out to a quick BoomKack beat. Smooth out crown and frame of the face and go!
