Style on the 1's and 2's

Fun fact: Some of the world's hottest DJs are women. When it comes to girl power in the DJ booth, it goes well beyond what's spinning on the turntables. There's a look and attitude to go with the sound. Check out some of the most stylish DJs to grace the scene!

Leigh Lezark has been featured in countless fashion magazines for her iconic style. This international DJ is known for her edgy yet classy look and can usually be seen rocking a jet black bob. Interesting fact: Ms. Lezark has been dying her own hair since she was 10. She recently experimented with blonde hair, but quickly decided that it wasn't for her and went back to black. Which do you like better?

You might recognize Hot 97.9's own DJ Princess Cut from our Grand Opening Celebration in Atlanta. She's a known trendsetter, usually seen rocking visually stimulating costumes while on the 1's and 2's. Her creative style has been noted by media outlets all over. She has been featured on the cover of Mandatory Business magazine and was highlighted on VIBE.com as a coveted VIBE Vixen.

May Kwok is a New York based DJ who is no stranger to beauty and fashion. She has spun records at both New York and Paris Fashion Week. Kwok just went through a dramatic hair transformation of her own. She cut off her long black tresses and went blonde. But, this is only a small step towards her ideal hair color, platinum!

DJ Kiss performs everywhere from charity events to high profile fashion events. Underneath the headphones she keeps her silky hair pressed to perfection. She has been given a “Personal Style Award” by Elle Magazine and is listed as one of Vanity Fair’s top 10 best-dressed female DJs. When she's not behind the turntables, DJ Kiss blogs about all things fashion, beauty, and music.

Winter Style Guide

The winter months are approaching and we're constantly faced with the dilemma of being warm or being fashionable. Why not be both? There are ways to dress fashionable in the winter while staying warm.

Here are a few options:

0112-ugg-boots_li.jpg

1. Uggs- Everyone may not be a fan of the classic Ugg Australia boots but they are one of the warmest boots on the market. The gloves and earmuffs work wonders in the winter as well. If you think the classic boot is more of an eye sore than a fashionable statement then try different style boots from Ugg. They make over the knee leather boots with the same plush material that the classic boots have on the inside.

2.Knee High Socks- The over the knee look is very "in" this season. If your current boots aren't keeping you warm enough then buy a pair of thick knee high or over the knee socks. They come in several different colors and materials. You can change the color and style you rock every day of the week.

3. Leather, studs and buckles- Leather, studs and buckles have been very fashionable lately. We've been wearing leather joggers, skirts and shorts since the summer. Why not transfer some of that sizzling style to your winter wardrobe? Motorcycle boots and combat boots are still in style this season. Most of them are made of leather and are embellished with black, gold or silver studs and buckles. Grab a pair of these and you'll definitely heat up your winter with style

Thanksgiving Hair!

Thanksgiving is a time for the gathering of family and friends, hugs, and love.  You’ll probably be in the kitchen with the ladies of the house, slaving over sweet potato pies and green bean casserole. And after the large meal, you have a chance to work off all the calories by shopping on Black Friday . This holiday season, try a “half & half” hair style. Wear your hair half up to keep hair out of your face. This will be essential in the kitchen, and when you need a clear view to that clearance flat screen you’ve been eyeing. Wearing it down in the back will give you the drama you desire.  With the “ half & half ” style, you’ll look glamorous while maintaining a functional style.

Iconic designer, Isabel Marant, threw a party on October 24th with retail giant H&M for the launch of the Isabel Marant for H&M collection. Although the designer is known for creating gorgeous easy to wear looks for women, she will be creating a men's line as well for the trendy store. The collection will be available in stores November 14th.

Rick Owens Steps Into Spring 2014

Fashion designer Rick Owens stirred up Paris Fashion Week by implementing "stepping" into his Spring 2014 show.  A show stopping addition to the usually organized fashion showcase, Owens paid homage to a longtime cultural ritual performed primarily on college campuses by enlisting four different step teams: Step Momentum, Washington Divas, Soul Steppers, and the Zetas! Modeling and stepping in unison is no easy feat so kudos to the ladies that participated!

Wanna thrift?

So you’ve heard all the craze about thrifting. And there’s a part of you that really wants to try it out. But when you walk into a thrift store, you become overwhelmed by the huge racks of endless ugly sweaters and dingy tee-shirts. No worries. We’ve got you. Try these tips below for a successful trip to your local thrift store!

thrift 2.jpg

·         Block out your calendar for the day! You will need TIME to search for your treasures and time to try them on. Thrifting is something that cannot be rushed! It is literally a treasure hunt.

·         Wear comfortable clothes and shoes! You will be in and out of the dressing room so you’ll want to wear easy off and on clothes.

·         Do your research! Yelp is an amazing tool that will help you find the best of the best thrift stores in your area.

·         Open your mind! Thrift stores are meant to add flair, charm, and originality to your wardrobe. Think of the staple items that you already have, and thrift for things to accent or compliment them.

·         Be careful of the company you take with you! Yes… go by yourself to avoid a “thrifting party-pooper” or go with someone who loves to thrift more than life itself. Stick to these two options, and you’ll be fine.

So go out this weekend and give thrifting a try! You’ll be amazed at the high quality, designer, and fashion forward items you’ll find. Last but not least, always remember to be patient. Your treasures are out there somewhere waiting for you to find them! Good luck!
