Winter style and Glamorous Hair

Although the weather has changed quickly into the winter season, don't let it slow your style down. Don't leave the house without your coat, or two, and accessorize your outerwear with bright leather gloves for pops of color, faux fur neck wraps, and knee-high heeled boots. Have your stylist color your Pure Wavy Studio Fishnet for added winter fun and feel your long tresses blow in the brisk air!

Give Me A Break!

The beauty of the sew-in is that you have versatility in styling without putting pressure on your natural hair. However, many women begin to experience the dreaded “Leave Out Breakage”. This is the area of your hair that you always “leave out” to conceal your tracks. When you decide to grow your hair back, but you want a natural look, try using an Indique frontal. Unlike the crown, the frontal give you full frontal coverage around the hairline, with multiple parting options.

Extensions 101: Picking the Right Texture

BOUNCE Relaxed Straight texture

BOUNCE Relaxed Straight texture

Picking the right extensions isn't as easy as it sounds. You want your extensions to look natural, like it is growing out of your scalp. Therefore, it is important that the texture you pick blends with your hair in its natural state or when it is pressed. Our Pure and Hysteria collections are our silkiest hair collections. To blend with the Pure or Hysteria collection, your natural hair doesn't have to be NATURALLY straight, curly or wavy. It can, but if it is not, your hair should silken out nicely when pressed to blend well with the extensions. If you want to wear Pure Curly, Straight or Wavy and are worried about blending the texture with your natural hair, we offer closures so that blending won't be an issue.

Our BOUNCE and SEA collections have been through a three day steam process to achieve the textures. If your natural hair has a natural deep wave or a tight curl to it then our BOUNCE Deep Wave, Coil Curl or Organic Curl textures will blend well with your hair. If your hair isn't the natural texture of these tightly curled pieces, be sure you are able to manipulate your hair with heat, rollers, braids or twists to match the texture of your extensions. Our BOUNCE Natural Roots, BOUNCE Relaxed Straight and SEA Zen Straight textures are made to blend with natural African-American hair when it is straightened. If your hair is a little more thick and coarse than our Pure Straight texture then our straight textures in the BOUNCE and SEA collections will work well for you.

The same rules that apply to our Pure and Hysteria collections apply to our BOUNCE Beach Wave and SEA Tahitian curl extensions. These textures shouldn't have heat applied to them, however, you can apply heat to your natural hair to blend with these curl patterns. If your natural hair is fine or silky (or a similar texture can be achieved when heat is applied), simply curl it to match the texture.

Hair & Beauty Tips: The Best Man Holiday

The Best Man Holiday has been the most anticipated movie of the season.
It finally premiered on November 15th! Thanks to Universal Pictures, we now have behind the scenes beauty secrets from the characters you know and love! We also added our own suggestions to achieve each look with Indique!  Click on the images for more information.

Deck the Halls with Curls and Color!

The cold, winter months prompt us to wear mundane, dark clothing, and can get a little boring. Spice things up with a cut and some color. You can do a few highlights, using Hysteria Demi’s for pops of color, or go full on glam and do a complete overhaul of color. Anything you do this holiday season will give you a boost!

Rocker Chic!

Jada Pinkett Smith has been showing us how rock star she is lately with her brown braids and shaved blonde sides. The modern mohawk definitely works with her beauty and not against it. She's worn a mohawk look before but the two toned look gives it a lot more edge and excitement. The actress, wife and mom of two young rock stars is also lead singer in the rock band Wicked Evolution. Perhaps the new look is promoting the release of a new album.

Define Your Curls With A Diffuser

One of our lovely clients came to Indique Philadelphia with a few questions about her customized colored 18" Pure Curly tresses. She wanted to know how to maintain the natural curl pattern so we showed her exactly what to do in our boutique. With a spray bottle filled with water, Indique Essentials French Argan Oil, and a hair diffuser we gave her a mini demonstration. She loved her heat-less defined curls!

BadGal's New Bangs

The ever-changing Rihanna is at it once again, with her new bangs and bob look. You may be wondering if this is the same exact look she rocked a few years prior. It’s not! This look is a little more disheveled and messy, and a little less “Good Girl”.  She adds to her ‘BadGal’ image with thigh high boots and a tiny leotard.  Whatever she does, she’s always in her own lane and we love her for it!

Live Healthy and Snack on Tasty Treats

As women, we constantly are criticized about our weight. Our biggest critic is usually our self. Losing and gaining weight can be frustrating and eliminating our favorite foods from our diet can make us feel deprived. Good news ladies, you can have your favorite foods and still live a healthy lifestyle! It all comes down to eating our guiltiest pleasures in moderation and swapping out the man made foods for natural foods.

Savannah James, wife of NBA player Lebron James, is showing us how we can achieve our dream figure and still snack on our favorite sweet treats. James recently opened a juice bar in Miami called The Juice Spot. You won't feel guilty after ordering at this protein packed juice bar. Items on the menu may include peanut butter and chocolate but the juices and smoothies are meant to provide protein and great taste.  Remember, this is a lifestyle change not a diet.

Mother/daughter duo and fitness gurus Lane and Ellen Ector also show us how we can eat  our traditional soul food meals and keep the pounds off. The Ectors have revamped the way women think about food. Check out some of the photos below:

Thick is In Thin is Out: Guide to the Perfect Eyebrows

Shaping your eyebrows is essential to framing your face. It is important that you really consider what the best look for you is and that you do not try to duplicate anyone else's look. Shaping your brows doesn't mean cutting them all off and drawing them back on. Simply remove excess hair by tweezing, waxing, threading or razoring your eyebrows. Be sure to follow your natural brow line. This will give you the most natural look. Don't remove too much hair. You just want to clean them up.

When it comes to grooming your brows thicker is usually better. It has been the trend in the beauty and fashion industry for the past few years and it looks better (thicker brows make you look younger). You can always cut them a little thinner if they are too thick for your liking.

To define your brows use a brow pencil or brow powder from your favorite makeup brand that is a color slightly lighter than your eyebrows. The right shade of blush and an angle brush could also work. Sephora has amazing brow kits for sale that include everything you need as well as the steps to achieve the perfect look.

The inner part of your eyebrows should be slightly lighter than your tapered tails. It should be a gradual change, using the same color, not a dramatic change in color. If your eyebrows are bushy or a little curly then use a clear brow gel or use a small bit of oil to make sure they stay slicked down.

Thanksgiving Hair!

Thanksgiving is a time for the gathering of family and friends, hugs, and love.  You’ll probably be in the kitchen with the ladies of the house, slaving over sweet potato pies and green bean casserole. And after the large meal, you have a chance to work off all the calories by shopping on Black Friday . This holiday season, try a “half & half” hair style. Wear your hair half up to keep hair out of your face. This will be essential in the kitchen, and when you need a clear view to that clearance flat screen you’ve been eyeing. Wearing it down in the back will give you the drama you desire.  With the “ half & half ” style, you’ll look glamorous while maintaining a functional style.
